Congress wins Karnataka assembly elections, claims mandate for change
The Congress party has emerged victorious in the Karnataka assembly elections held on May 10, 2023, defeating the incumbent BJP government led by Basavaraj Bommai. The Congress has won 120 seats out of 224, securing a comfortable majority and ending the BJP’s five-year rule in the state. The BJP has managed to win only 90 seats, while the JD(S) has been reduced to 12 seats. The remaining two seats have gone to independent candidates. Mr Shivakumar, said that the victory was the best birthday gift given to him by the people of Karnataka and thanked them for their trust and support.
